ABOUT THE MOTHERSHIP

The Mothership was born years ago, when my husband pulled a WWII lifeboat out of the bushes at the edge of our farm, and decided it deserved another life. Back then, we called it the Lifeboat. Mickey outfitted it with a full-scale kitchen and transformed it into a mobile extension of the farm before we built the Farmstand. It was a place where food, work, and community wove together.

We would bring the boat into town for Fourth of July parades and community events, serving simple farm meals. On weekends, it sat at the edge of the beach offering boxes of vegetables, loaves of bread, and flower bouquets. Kids came through for pickle-making, jam-stirring and noodle-rolling workshops. Chefs came from near and far to enliven the boat kitchen during our Farmstand art and music gatherings. It was a place where people gathered, shared and enjoyed.

That same spirit lives on in its new life as Mothership Vintage, nestled alongside our Gospel Flat Showspace. This ship is a vessel and a gathering space, and continues to support community & gatherings.

BRONWEN’S STORY

Gold-colored pin depicting a girl sitting with a small dog in her lap, holding it and looking at it.

I began collecting vintage in middle school, first from my grandmother's hand-me-downs and eventually from the thrift stores of southern California and beyond when I arrived west for boarding school at 13. I remain in constant pursuit of the excitement each found piece brings, fascinated by the imagined lives of previous wearers and ever reverent of long lost attention to detail.

What keeps me hooked is the feeling of finding something made with care, and the sense that an object can hold time and evoke memory, if you let it.
